Not all the work I do is made from scratch. I repair things also. Here are a few images of a Daimler Dart Bonnet or hood, which received damage when the latch holding it down gave way and the bonnet flipped up at speed and hit the windscreen (shield). Check out the images to see how this item was put back together, the important thing with glassfibre repairs is that the repair needs to be stronger than the original part.

Damage was almost the full width of the panel.

Close-up of one edge.

››

Part of the perimeter reinforcement section needing be be removed so that the panel can be repaired correctly.

‹‹

Outer surface aligned before new glassfibre added to the underside.

››

All preparation completed before repair commences. It was decided to add some additional reinforcement along the centre of the panel.

‹‹

The areas receiving new glassfibre have been ground back almost to the surface gelcoat.

››

Paper rope has been added where needed after the initial layers of glass were layed-up.

‹‹

Close-up of an edge area showing the paper rope awaiting several layers of glassfibre.

››

All the glassfibre is now layed up.

‹‹

A thin mix of resin and filler power was added to cover the new glass to replicate the finish on the rest of the panel.

››

The outer side of the panel was made good. Providing care is taken lining up the panel very little filler is needed for the final finish as can be seen.
